BIG NICK & THE GILA MONSTERS
BIG NICK & THE GILA MONSTERS
John "Big Nick" Samora has been playing in Phoenix for the last 20 years. He is the lead singer and harmonica player in his band, Big Nick and the Gila Monsters. They are one of the finest Blues bands in Arizona, and have been together for the past 16 years.

Mike "El Rey" Lewis is the guitar player and he is considered one of the finest players in Phoenix, having cut his teeth with Chuck Berry in the late '60's after starting Phoenix Area Blues bands in their High School days with James Mason.

A Phoenix treasure, Bass player James "Muddy" Mason has been the cornerstone of dozens of landmark acts in the Phoenix area since the mid '60s.

Together since 1994, the stability of this group has been one of it's hallmarks. Bobby Whiteshoes, the founding drummer, passed the sticks to Pro drummer, Ricky J. Lockhart, after retiring in 2004. Ricky has picked up the torch, laying down the solid grooves this great Blues band is known for.

With 5 self produced CD's under their own label, Monster-Tone Records, these guys are the real deal!
SMOKESTACK LIGHTNING
SMOKESTACK LIGHTNING
Smokestack Lightning is a band that gets right to the point, and they use
the unmistakable sound of pain, triumph, loneliness and joy to get that
point across. They take the wisdom of the blues and the mesmerism of rock n roll to split tuneful atoms every time they hit the stage. Since they banded together in late 2009, they’ve
taken cues from their blues and rock forebears to create a truly American sound. The artists of this rising outfit are professionals of music and life. Bassist Mark Leos and drummer Pat Antone hold up the groove like twin Atlas’ supporting Smokestack Lightning’s world of rhythm and tempo. Guitarist Rik Leos and harmonica player Robert Jackson pounce on audiences with their fiery lead work.

In 2011 Smokestack Lightning was nominated for a 2012 Native American Music Award for “Best Blues Recording.”

In 2015 Smokestack Lightning won the Arizona Blues Showdown at the Rhythm Room. The event was hosted by the Phoenix Blues Society and featured several of the Valley’s top blues bands. In 2014, Smokestack Lightning came in second at the showdown.
Based in Arizona on the Gila River Indian Community, Smokestack Lightning has traveled beyond the reaches of their reservation and performed before a wide array of audiences at a variety of venues and events.
LEON J'S JUKE JOINT
LEON J'S JUKE JOINT
From early in Leon's youth he was immersed in music. Traveling in his parents gospel tour bus as a child he performed his first vocal performance at age 4.
Inducted in the National Heritage Foundation's Blues Hall of Fame TM. - 2011, as Ambassador to the Blues & Great Blues Artist Arizona.

Leon's vocal prowess and talent are what you first notice when experiencing his music. His soulful vocals, slide and finger style guitar work, and smooth acoustic grooves, are what he is noted for in performances. He has a reputation for uncommonly entertaining and engaging performances with his story telling & moving the music and set to fit when the energy from his audience joins with his music.

Leon’s storytelling, & knowledge of the early bluesmen and their styles, and the
effect it has to this day on most of our popular music, takes you on a special
journey thru time.

When asked about his music mixing both original with
interpretive songs, he replies “ If I had to be completely truthful, I don’t view any
song I perform as anything other than my music. Simply because I didn’t write the song- say lyrics as an example,
does not make my performance of it any less an original expression... Original expression from the early legends of the blues when furthering
another’s song, is one of the things I love most about the Roots and Blues Music I am blessed to perform for many music lovers"

"Leon J's Delta Infused music was so fresh and original, our studio audience and our Television viewing audience raved about his live performance"
Good Morning Arizona ABC TV 15 March 2013

" A true musical artist - creative - passionate & extremely talented..."
AZ Entertainment Magazine 2012

Leon J's performance is a show you don't want to miss..... Leon J - Simply Good Music!

MIKE ELDRED TRIO
MIKE ELDRED TRIO
“Mike Eldred is among the rare breed of guitarists who is not afraid of blurring lines in American Music. By bending all of his favorite musical styles, Mike has created his own original voice in modern electric guitar playing. HE’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT, BABY!”
- Brian Setzer
“The deeper “The Mike Eldred Trio” digs into American roots music, the stronger they sound” - Goldmine Magazine
"It’s like listening to what the Clash might have done if they had been born 20 years earlier..."
- Blues Blast Magazine
“It's not so much raw chutzpah as sheer love — backed by unassailable musical chops — with which veteran Southern California blues musician Mike Eldred puts on display in “61 and 49,” referencing the fabled intersection in Clarksdale, Miss., that's essentially ground zero in the world of Delta blues.
What makes the album such a delight is the masterful way the guitarist, singer and songwriter paces his trek through a rainbow's worth of electric and acoustic blues workouts. It's the sign of a journeyman who has spent untold hours playing clubs and learning the old-fashioned way what flies and what doesn't”.
- Los Angeles Times
Voted one of the best guitarists in Americana / Roots / Blues music, The Mike Eldred Trio is a roots “Super-Band” with Eldred (formerly with Stray Cat Lee Rocker) and John Bazz and Jerry Angel both from The Blasters! Their first CD (The Mike Eldred Trio) sent shock waves throughout the Americana/roots/blues community with rave reviews from Brian Setzer among others, and gave Eldred the title “best unknown guitarist”. The band's second CD (61 and 49) was voted of the Top Ten CD releases of 2011 by the Los Angeles Times.
The band’s newest effort is a multi-layered blues journey through Mississippi juke joints, prisons, churches, and the small neighborhood called Baptist Town in Greenwood where the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson was murdered in 1938. The trio invited several guests into the famed Sun Studio to lend a hand, and David Hidalgo, Robert Cray, and John Mayer help to tell a story of the dichotomy of the ongoing struggle between poverty and affluence, love and hate, and sin and salvation.
The trio’s 4th album “Baptist Town” is a monumental achievement in roots and blues storytelling, and will undoubtedly grow the trio’s already large fan base that includes artists like ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons:
“El contenta completa”...! This is it. Enjoy this one, top to bottom, bottom to top. The Mike Eldred Trio makes the rounds through a blues-wrapped offering that is certain to satisfy. Rock it!”
