DESERT PURPLE
DESERT PURPLE
Have you ever seen a desert sunset? Broad strokes of indigo, orange and purple streak across the sky, as the last lines of sunlight fade in the horizon. The desert can be a lonely and forlorn place, dry and desiccated. Sometimes though, a rejuvenating monsoon blows through, kicking up dust and dirt in its path, and soaking into the creosote with it’s life-giving liquid. And if one is lucky enough, they will be around to see the flowers that bloom afterward. Desert Purple is one such flower in the desert.

The Band:
Desert Purple is a psychedelic blues/rock band from Arizona. There music has the rough-and-ready notes of early White Stripes, and Black Keys.

The Strings:
The sound ranges from fuzzy distortion on Initiated, to mostly clean with a little wah pedal action on Desert Purple.

The Skins:
The drums sound full, tight and groove-laden, fitting this style of music perfectly.

The Vocals:
Vocals are split between the drummer and guitarist, and work just fine. The vocals are probably the weakest part of the EP, but they are by no means bad.

Favorite Track:
The blues influence is super-heavy on the opening song, Initiated, which stands out as my favorite. The closing song, Desert Purple was a very close second, with it’s psychedelia-laced guitar sound.

Conclusion:
They have a tight garage sound to their debut EP, forEPlay, which provides ups and downs through all 6 tracks. If you are a fan of blues rock, they are definitely worth a listen, and worth keeping an eye on.
