SUGAR THIEVES
SUGAR THIEVES
The Sugar Thieves have a sultry blues roots foundation, and powerhouse delta sound that will take you back in time. They also come equipped with a fresh new style, high-energy showmanship, and an original song list that brings music enthusiasts, of any age, to their feet to shake that meat! In 2008 and 2009, The Sugar Thieves won the Phoenix Blues Society’s AZ. Blues Showdown and were voted best blues band in the state. They went on to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (Feb. 2009/Jan. 2010) where they were voted one of the top ten unsigned blues bands in the world in 09, and won the “People’s Choice” award at the Old Daisy Theatre in 2010. The Sugar Thieves were also voted best Americana band in 09 by the Phoenix New Times’ “Summer of Sound Series”, and nominated for Best Local Band in Phoenix as well. The singular vision that drives this band is their plight to reintroduce what some call a dying genre, blues music, to younger generations and those that have simply forgotten. But don’t think you’ve heard anything like it before. The Thieves put on a show that’s worth writing home about.
THE LUCKY LOSERS
THE LUCKY LOSERS
The Lucky Losers, San Francisco’s finest male/female duet fronted band, deliver an inventive, hypnotic spin on 60’s blues and roots music. Cathy Lemons and Phil Berkowitz breathe new life into American songwriting tradition and the vanishing art of duet singing. The stark contrast between Lemons’ velvet voice with a gritty edge and Berkowitz’ elegant tenor makes for an electrifying performance. Their first album, “A Winning Hand” received national attention from critics and made The Roots Music Report’s “Top 50 Blues Albums of 2015.” Their second album, “In Any Town,” made Making a Scene’s “Top Independent Blues Albums of 2016” list plus the indie king nominated them for two Independent Blues Music Awards: The album peaked at #6 on Living Blues, and The Roots Music Report placed it #2 for "Top 50 Albums/ California/All Genres," and #3 on "Top Blues Rock Albums." They have been nominated for “Best Traditional Album / 2015,” “Best Contemporary Album /2016” and “Best Harmonica Player/ 2016” by Blues 411. Critics from Rolling Stone to Living Blues have given this songwriting/singing team a huge thumbs up.
